Porcelain Fused to Metal

Porcelain Fused to Metal

Porcelain Fused to Metal (or PFM) is the standard type of crowns & bridges. Metal was the material of choice in dentistry long before the all-ceramic revolution. It has proven to be the most successful and longest lasting restoration known in the dental field. As an industry standard, clinicians still prescribe PFMs more than any other type of restoration.
Porcelain Fused to Metal crowns let your patients have crowns that are stronger than pure porcelain but with a more aesthetic presentation than a full metal restoration. Porcelain fused to metal also provides the option of a metal chewing surface, which is gentlest on the opposing teeth. A disadvantage is that since they have a metal substructure, they do require an opaque layer under the ceramic, which makes replicating the translucency of the natural teeth difficult to replicate.

Indications
Single crowns, bridges (from 2 units to long-span bridges)
